Located in Shanghai's Jiading District, SAIC's Innovative Research and Development Institute (IRDI) office is a place where innovation and progress is a common concern for both the organization and the individual. As a result, there are a number of recreational and collaborative areas in the office, and the spacious and open layout, combined with the comfortable and warm furnishings, creates a cozy environment that can stimulate the staff's vitality and enthusiasm for innovation.

The vibrant community in the office

People yearn to establish connections with the outside world and interactive behaviors are happening all the time. This means that people expect to have an open and active ‘Social Garden’ in the office.

In the social leisure area, a comfortable ‘social centre’ is created in the office by pairing the Four Resting leisure table with sofas of delicate texture.

Focus or collaboration?

Researchers have found that in open office spaces, when people need to interact with their team, they fully enjoy and utilize the open space. However, when they need to think independently, even in close proximity to others, they will try to avoid any eye contact, verbal or physical contact with others.

In this office, a good balance has been achieved between employees’ focus and collaboration.

Cluster workstation, which provide both openness and privacy; in the adjacent areas of the workstations, Cube sofas with soft partition screens and Four Real create spaces for people to engage in ad-hoc small-scale discussions or individual focused work.

The WalIPod, a small, intimate piece of furniture, is put to great use in this small room where employees can sit, stand and work or make phone calls, which is better suited for personal concentration.

The meeting room is equipped with Mascot conference tables, and the space is large and spacious, making it convenient for enterprises to hold important decision-making meetings.
