They riding the waves of new interconnection and new intelligence era, coming with determination. ‘Generation Z’, also known as ‘post-00s’ in China, is becoming a new force in the workplace.
At that moment, there was a burst of enthusiasm in the showroom of Novah’s Shanghai headquarters. They were a group of aspiring young people majoring in industrial and furniture design from Nanjing Forestry University. Experience China’s leading workstation system, understand the functions of each product in detail.
As one of the few domestic systematic technology companies that consider spatial plans from a strategic level and conduct on-site visits and analyze data, Novah will share its years of experience in assisting Fortune 500 companies to implement talent management strategies, helping students expand their knowledge blind spots.
The visit to the showroom ended, and the students of Nanjing Forestry University played the role of project designers, freely exerting inspiration in the next research topic.
Energy-saving swing table, relaxing and collaborative waist-twisting device, playful rocking chair, carefully researched Lego cushion, storage utensils that use light transmission and storage… In just one day, they came up with design schemes and scene renderings.
A review panel from the Product Innovation Center prepared a detailed set of 15 rating principles and conducted a thorough evaluation analysis for each group, presenting honorary certificates and commemorative furniture gifts on site to the strongest team in the comprehensive assessment.
In the summary after the rating, the speech of the sales VP gave everyone a lot of inspiration. He mentioned that before making solutions, we must empathize with users and consider the feasibility of concepts, such as: materials, costs, what kind of scenes are composed. Furniture design is product-oriented, the purpose is to sell out, self-appreciating design is art rather than good products, designs that cannot be mass-produced are useless no matter how good they are.
Furniture designer or product manager is the parent of every furniture product. Take Novah’s own example, from a single product to an ecosystem of a family, like walking through the road of nurturing children into talents, witnessing them standing in various enterprises, winning all kinds of awards and gaining good reputation.
For new designers, there will be many design patterns and they can come up with solutions quickly, but their weakness is that they lack basic product knowledge and don’t understand production, so there will be relatively more flashy things. In contrast, older generation of designers think about how to mass-produce products, and they have a good understanding of various processes.
Therefore, an excellent designer must interact with factories. Factories are important places for prototyping and mass production, realizing the implementation of designs. They provide full support in terms of technology, materials, and delivery dates. We encourage newcomers to personally participate in the entire process from the source of product development, assembly to the final product.
In Novah’s factory, students experienced nailing stakes, cutting cloth strips, spraying glue and sticking cotton.After practical production battles, we have a thorough understanding of structural technology. Student feedback is: making things yourself gives a greater sense of accomplishment !
Through this trip to Novah’s factory, students have gained new insights into the furniture industry. We selected outstanding students from among them and issued internship direct pass cards.
What is the employment prospect of furniture industry? How to implement future career planning? I believe that the students have clearer answers in mind.
This is of course not the end of the story, but a brand new beginning. We wish them a bright future, and also open our doors to many excellent academies.
